Hazards

Hill fog patches.

General Situation

A much brighter day across the Lakes with some pleasant autumnal sunshine showing through. However disturbed weather will develop again later on Thursday.

Wednesday


Weather:

A bright day with just a few blustery showers and sunny spells. Most showers brief in nature with patchy hill fog. Showers most likely late morning to late afternoon.

Visibility:

Excellent briefly reducing moderate during showers. 200 metres in hill fog.

Cloud Base:

Well broken or broken 800 to 1000 metres, some temporary banks 600 metres in showers. Some gaps to limited patches around 1200 metres, especially late in the day across the Eastern Lakes.

Wind and Temperature at 900m:

Westerly 25 to 30mph, gusts 40mph easing 15 to 20mph. 6 Celsius.

Freezing Level:

Above summits.

Thursday


Weather:

Starting dry and bright with good sunny spells through the morning. However during the afternoon cloud will thicken from the west to bring persistent rain in from the west coast by late afternoon. Hill fog will develop widely by dusk on west facing hills.

Visibility / Cloud Base:

Excellent initially, reducing moderate later in rain. 200 metres in hill fog later.

Wind / Temperature / Freezing Level:

Southwest winds of 20 to 30mph will increase to gale force over hills with gusts 50 to 60mph later. 6 rising to 10 Celsius. Freezing level above summits.

Friday


Mostly cloudy with widespread hill fog and spells of drizzly rain. The East of the Lakes may see some drier interludes with more patchy hill fog, but persistent and heavier rain is liable to develop in all areas later. Southwest winds will remain strong to gale force and it will be mild.

Saturday


Starting dull, wet and windy with widespread hill fog and heavy bursts of rain. During the day much clearer weather spreads eastwards with hill fog lifting and some sun breaking through with a few blustery showers later. Strong Southwest then West winds will prevail. Turning cooler.

Sunday


A mainly dry day with some good sunny intervals. Southwest winds expected to ease with just limited patchy hill fog.
