Monument of the Month:
Paddy End Dressing Floors
This is a great monument because:
it records Coniston's copper mining heritage. In 1830 a new mill was built to crush copper ore using large stamps. The ore was then sent to settling ponds (glossary) on the dressing floor (glossary) terraces. It closed in the early 1880s. In 2005 a burst water main damaged the site. We worked with United Utilities to preserve the site for future generations to enjoy.
Where is it?:
Coniston Copper Mines, Coniston - SD 284 987
