Chairman of Midgey Allotment Society. Member of Cumbria Amenity Trust and Mining History Society. Retired after 35 years in the Whitehaven coal mines, 18 years as a colliery deputy; then worked at Force Crag mine until it closed. Self employed in general building and welding services with his son. Interests include countryside, gardening, local history and the environment.
