Background, particular interests and hobbies:

Lived in Grasmere for 42 years, bringing up two children who attended local schools. Taught at the Lakes School, Troutbeck Bridge, latterly as Head of Sixth Form for 25 years. For nine years has been a Lakes Parish Councillor.

BA in modern history from Somerville College, Oxford and an MA. Also has a M.Litt from Lancaster University – with a thesis on the Clifford family in the later Middle Ages.

Acts and direct plays as part of the Grasmere Players, an amateur dramatic society. Recorded audio interviews for Ambleside Oral History Group archives. Volunteer at the Armitt Library and Museum, cataloguing manuscripts and acting as library manager helping researchers into Lake District history, culture and environment. Also helps with educational workshops for example with primary schools.

As a Trustee of Grasmere Village Hall involved with on-going improvements such as helping to install Thermafleece insulation from Herdwick sheep.
