Understanding the National Park

Investigating Hill Farming

Fellwalking in the Lake District National Park

Visit a traditional Lake District Farm and learn about the joys and hardships of this type of farming.

Land use, buildings and the natural surroundings of a working farm will be studied. Pupils also undertake fieldwork and collect data on the physical inputs into the farming system. This enables them to consider some of the decision making aspects of running a farm.

The farm site is part of the Lake District Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) scheme.

Location: Grasmere
