Miles Without Stiles
The following routes have been suggested as suitable for wheelchair users. Most are very limited in terms of distance and often follow minor roads. Parking is often limited.
Brockhole, Windermere. Grid Ref 390011
The Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole offers superb landscaped gardens and grounds plus a spacious restaurant and exhibition area. Lakeshore access and toilets.
Crow Park, Keswick. Grid Ref 265228
Park at Lakeside car park. Cross the road at the exit and access Crow Park through the iron gate.
Fell Foot Park (National Trust), Newby Bridge. Grid Ref 383870
A powered 'buggy' vehicle is available for wheelchair users.
Lakeside walk. Toilets adjacent to cafe; key in cafe.
Holehird, Troutbeck. Grid Ref 411008
Park in the Lakeland Horticultural Society gardens car park. The lower levels of the gardens are accessible to wheelchairs and the views towards Langdale are particularly good.
Mirehouse, Keswick. Grid Ref 234282
On the east side of the A591 there is a car park with both toilets and a cafe with wheelchair access. Opposite the car park is the entrance to Mirehouse. Both house and grounds are accessible to wheelchair users, as is the recently restored Garden Hall.
Sizergh Castle (National Trust), Kendal. Grid Ref 498879
Level access to the garden from the car park. Toilets and tea-room.
