For wheelchairs, buggies and the stile-free
Our Miles Without Stiles routes are perfect for those in wheelchairs, buggies or who find walking a challenge. There are 21 simple short options to give a blast of fresh air without tramping for hours or negotiating squeeze stiles after a generous pub lunch!

Road-tested
All routes have been 'road tested' by local residents using wheelchairs, and a grading scheme has been adopted in terms of surface quality and gradient.
The distance for each route is rounded to the nearest half mile and includes returning to your vehicle. For example, the route 'Red Nab to High Wray' is measured as 2 miles to include the return trip to Red Nab car park.

Top tips
Where routes follow tarmacked roads or lanes used by vehicles, special care needs to be taken. In general you should use the right-hand side of the road to be seen by oncoming traffic.
Where necessary a sketch map is provided. However we recommend you refer to the relevant 1:25,000 Outdoor Leisure Ordnance Survey maps to pinpoint the precise location using the grid reference supplied.
Have your say
How can we improve both the online guide/booklet, and the path network itself?
- Can you identify locations on the network that are difficult to access, and could be improved?
- Do you have a favourite spot that you'd like to get to easily, but can't because of a physical barrier, steep gradient or poor surface?
- Can you think of new routes for the network, particularly those where minor works could bring great benefit?
Please email your thoughts to barneyhill@lake-district.gov.uk Your comments will help us prioritise locations where work would bring the most benefit.
