Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole celebrates Cumbria’s Year of Adventure 2008 with an exciting and inspiring programme of activities, exhibitions, films and presentations, all exploring and celebrating the spirit of adventure.

Soak it Up

Canoeing in the Lake District

Tuesday 27 May: 10.30am, 1pm and 3.30pm

£3 per 2 hour session. Minimum age 8 years.

The Field Studies Council offers canoeing taster sessions to get to grips with the basics. Wear clothes that you are happy to get wet. Booking advisable 0845 272 0004

Thursday 29 May: 10.30am, 1pm and 3.30pm

£3 per 2 hour session. Minimum age 8 years.

Celebration of Water with John Beatty

23 May – 11 July FREE

John Beatty has been widely acclaimed as one of the most exciting and stimulating nature, travel and adventure photographers to ha ve emerged in recent years. This specially-created exhibition of his prints will be a celebration of water.

Ever fancied having a go at climbing but not sure where to start? Join the staf f from Keswick Climbing Wall (opens in new window) on their mobile climbing wall. Just turn up.

Have a go at Nordic Walking!

Saturday 2 and Saturday 30 August: 11am, 1pm and 3pm FREE

Minimum age 10 years.

Nordic Walking works your upper and lower body at the same time. Join Fiona Jones on an introductory session and walk around the grounds at Brockhole. Just turn up.

Prayer flags

Design your own Prayer Flags

Saturday 2 and Saturday 30 August: 11am and 2pm FREE

Suitable for all ages, 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Spend time with a local artist making your own designs to be displayed in the grounds at Brockhole. Booking advisable 0845 272 0004.

Have a go at Biking!

Saturday 9 and Saturday 16 August: 10am - 5pm FREE

Get biking with the experts from CycleActive (opens in new window) on their junior cycle skills course. Anyone under 18 can have a go and learn new skills while being supervised by some of Britain’s top instructors. Bikes and helmets are provided or bring your own. Just turn up.

Award-winning film-maker and photographer Alastair Lee presents an exhibition of Lakeland Panoramas from the high ground.

The Magic of Climbing

15 July - 18 September FREE

In 1934 Stanley Watson made ‘High Hazard’, a film about climbing in the Lakes. This exhibition, put together with the Mountain Heritage Trust, reveals Stanley’s interest in capturing the magic of climbing in the Cumbrian fells. Just turn up.
