Autumn spells archaeology in the Lake District where an annual conference attracts history enthusiasts from across the region.
Tickets are selling fast for an event where keynote speakers will be sharing information about the area’s spectacular cultural landscape, modified by thousands of years of human activity.
Expected to be a sell-out, Archaeology in the Lake District is being held at Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake on 18 October.
Lake District National Park archaeology and heritage adviser Eleanor Kingston explained the day was designed to give the public a chance to find out about recent projects.
She added: "We will be looking at the work of local groups and organisations, including the National Trust and universities. A wide-ranging programme includes prehistoric microliths and megaliths, medieval farming in the Lake District, an important survey at Buttermere and Loweswater and small finds.
Our past conferences have been very popular and we are expecting a capacity audience this year. I would advise anyone interested to book early. We look forward to welcoming old friends and new faces.”
Tickets for the day, which starts at 10am and finishes at 4pm, cost £10, or £15 with lunch and are available through the National Park Contact Centre on 01539 724555. More details available on our Archaeology News section.
