Building fences in the Lake District National Park

So as representatives of the nation and the voice of the public, what do our members do? Well, apart from attending committee meetings, voting on key issues and visiting proposed building sites, they also take part in Away Days.

These "Seeing is believing" trips allow members to meet people and visit places around the Lake District National Park to improve their understanding. Here's just one example:

13 December 2007 - Organised by Cumbria Tourism

Members discussing issues as they sail along Ullswater

9am - Depart on Mountain Goat minibus from headquarters in Kendal

9.30am - Arrive Waterhead Hotel at Ambleside

Listen to a presentation by the Chief Executive and Director of Development from Cumbria Tourism including topics such as the recent hotel study and linking to the Capital of Culture initiative

Attend presentation from Building Design Partnership about plans for the waterfront at Ambleside

11.30am - Depart Waterhead on Mountain Goat minibus to Glenridding

12.15pm - Arrive at Glenridding Pier to sail on the steam Lady Wakefield

Presentation on challenges facing attractions and current market conditions by Ullswater Steamers Ltd and The World of Beatrix Potter

1.15pm - Arrive back at Glenridding Pier and depart for Waterfoot Caravan Park, Pooley Bridge on Mountain Goat minibus

1.45pm - Arrive at Waterfoot Caravan Park, Pooley Bridge
