Equipment
Appropriate footwear required
Our Easy walks do not require walking boots, but do require sensible, supportive and comfortable footwear.
Walking boots essential
Walking boots offering grip, ankle support and protections are required as there may be rough, uneven or slippery ground. Our walk leaders can only accept participants on walks if they are appropriately prepared for the conditions.
Walking equipment
Bring gear with you and consider the changing weather conditions. We recommend:
- Waterproof and windproof clothing
- Extra lightweight layers for warmth including hats and gloves
- Back pack
- Enough food and water for the length of the activity
- Sun protection and extra drinks in summer

Packed lunch
Bring snacks, sandwiches and enough drinks for the length of the event.
Dogs allowed
You must take responsibility for your dog which should be on a lead during the event. Your dog should be fit enough to negotiate stiles, steep ascents and be well-behaved.
The walk leader on the day will advise whether your dog can take part. There's more information about having responsible fun with your canine companion on our Dog walking page.
Public transport
The start point for each event is given in the event listing. Find out more on our public transport page.
Disabilities and medical conditions
If you have a disability and are not sure if the event will be suitable then please call us on 01539 792895. If you or your child has a medical condition that might be a problem, please let the event leader know at the start of the event.
Hearing impaired suitability
The majority of our events are suitable for people with a hearing impairment. We advise people with limited hearing to identify themselves at the start of the event so the leader is aware.
Visually impaired suitability
In general, guided Easy and Easy + walks will be suitable for people with visual impairment. Please ensure you are accompanied by a sighted guide during the event. Guide dogs welcome.

Wheelchairs accessibility
People in wheelchairs will find pathways, access and surfaces generally even and well maintained on walks labelled wheelchair accessible. Gates or levels will have been checked for accessibility. Experienced leaders will be guiding the group. You will need someone to accompany you. Please ring 01539 792895 to book in advance.
Limited mobility
People who find it less easy to get about for a variety of reasons, but are not confined to a wheelchair will find events labelled Limited mobility particularly suitable. If you normally walk with someone assisting you, they should come too. Experienced leaders will be guiding the group. We advise you to book in advance. If you need more advice please call us on 01539 792895
Booking
Just turn up
Our walks are popular and places are allocated on the day on a first come first served basis, so turn up early to avoid disappointment but there's no need to book. We care about your safety and enjoyment, and have to stick to guidelines on group numbers. Therefore there may be times when we have to turn people away.
Please respect the decision of the walk leader and have an alternative activity planned just in case this should happen.
Booking essential
Places on these events should be booked in advance by ringing the contact number shown. If there is a charge then payment may be required at the time of booking. We are happy to discuss refunding any booking charge if you are unable to come on the day, but we would appreciate some notice, so we can let others take your place.
Cancellations due to bad weather
We will not cancel events because of general poor weather. If the route is unsafe due to extreme weather conditions or other factors, then an alternative route will be taken.
If you want to enquire about the weather, check out our detailed local weather forecast from the Met Office called Weatherline (opens new window) or call 0870 055 0575
Children
Children under 8 years old must always be accompanied by parents or carers. Some events allow unaccompanied children of 8 years and over. We will ask parents to complete a form giving contact details and any medical conditions. For all other events, children are usually welcome provided they are accompanied by an adult. Please check event details for any restrictions. If in doubt call us on 01539 792895 or talk to the event leader at the start. Events which accept unaccompanied children will be run by leaders who have had a Criminal Records Bureau check.
Safety
The Lake District National Park Authority is committed to providing safe and enjoyable activities for all. Therefore our event leaders have discretion not to accept participants who are not suitably equipped or who they consider unable to participate safely.
Although all reasonable steps have been taken to ensure the safety of people participating in our events, individuals do so at their own risk.
